  7.     This month, we take a look at another database for Windows. Paradox,
  8.     by Borland, has been around for some time. Now they have ventured
  9.     into the Windows marketplace, and created a version for Windows.
  10.  
  11.     A full installation of Paradox for Windows requires 15MB hard disk
  12.     space. The installation program shows you looking out of a car's
  13.     window. Your speedometer is % of installation completed. As you
  14.     progress, you odometer shows, not mileage, but how much disk space
  15.     has been used. As you travel along, you see roadside billboards come
  16.     up with information about various features, and highlights of the
  17.     program.

  19.     The core of Paradox for Windows is the new Borland InterBase Engine.
  20.     This engine provides fast, transparent access to a variety of data
  21.     formats, graphics, objects, multi-media and more. Using Borland's
  22.     SQL link, users will be able to connect to remote data as well.
  23.     Paradox supports all the field types' users expect in a graphical
  24.     environment.

  26.     Everything on the screen is an "object" to Paradox for Windows. It
  27.     can directly manipulate, by use of a new and innovative interface,
  28.     created by Borland, called OOUI (Object-Oriented User Interface).

  30.     Paradox for Windows has a full-featured visual programming language
  31.     called ObjectPAL. ObjectPAL is a robust, event driven, object-based
  32.     programming language that can be used to create true Windows
  33.     applications, from simple personal management applications, to
  34.     robust client/server applications with embedded SQL.
  35.  
  36.     Paradox for Windows is a very powerful program. There is not much
  37.     you cannot do with it. If you are a novice, or average user, or you
  38.     use a database to keep names and address, Paradox is NOT for you.
  39.     For an average user, it can be too much to learn. There are other
  40.     databases for Windows that will fit your needs. Paradox is geared
  41.     more toward the professional, or programmer, who creates databases
  42.     as part of their job.
